“Greetings Starfighter, You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Kodan Armada.”
These were the words that drew me in as a ten year old boy stood in the off licence/video store back in October 1985.

Looking on the shelves for something to watch on Halloween, the first time I watched the film I was hooked by the story, the music and the absolute joy of this film, it’s got a bit of everything, space, aliens, humour, and a great musical score.
I never saw THE LAST STARFIGHTER at the Cinema and so I thought what better way than to celebrate turning 50 at the Cinema I work as Technical Manager than to run a screening of this absolute classic…
This film holds a lot of childhood memories for me, I was drawn in, not so much by the visuals, (although this was the first film to ever integrate CGI footage with live action) but by the magical story of a guy who has a fairly dull lifestyle suddenly being pulled into a world of adventure after playing a video game.

This film was unique for its time and holds a special place for me as it has a lot of fun creative ideas, it’s a cheesy sci-fi fun movie and I think it holds up, the pacing is good and the characters are likeable. Even the music score by Craig Safan is reminiscent of the Fanfare Star Wars type music which dominated the 1980’s.
Join us at Electric Portobello on Monday September 8th for this special screening featuring an exclusive video introduction from Catherine Mary Stewart who plays Maggie in the film.
